PM Modi May Remove A Failed Arun Jaitley From The Post Of Finance Minister

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an hour-long meeting with BJP President Amit Shah and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley where he discussed the economic slowdown. PMO sources said that Modi wanted Jaitley to push for immediate reliefs in the GST in the pre-scheduled GST Council meeting in Vigyan Bhawan today.

On the other hands, if sources are to be believed, Arun Jaitley may be removed as Union Finance Minister. In this case, Jaitley may get the home portfolio with current home minister Rajnath Singh likely to be made the deputy prime minister in such a scenario.

Earlier, Yashwant Sinha (finance minister under former Bharatiya Janata Party Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee) said:

“We will be judged by the promises we made. They’re backslapping each other and convincing the people that everything is hunky-dory. But let’s see what the people think.”

Sinha added: “I’m not saying we’re going to lose the 2019 election, we might still win. But as far as the employment opportunities are concerned, people are certainly going to tell us, ‘you promised so many jobs, and where are they?”
