Ben Stokes named in England squad for the Ashes tour of Australia despite arrest

The England squad for the Ashes tour of Australia this winter has been announced with recently-arrested Ben Stokes among those selected.

A 16-man squad has been announced for the tour, with the first Test taking place at the end of November.

Surrey wicketkeeper Ben Foakes has been included in the squad for the first time alongside Somerset fast bowler Craig Overton.

James Vince has been recalled at number three, replacing Tom Westley whose unimpressive average after five Tests has appeared to count against him.

Joe Root, Alastair Cook, Mark Stoneman, Dawid Malan, Gary Ballance, James Vince, Moeen Ali, Mason Crane, Ben Foakes, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Jake Ball, Craig Overton.

Mason Crane gets in the squad as back up to spinner Moeen Ali, meaning no place for Adil Rashid.
